STATISTICS: WHAT NUMBERS HAVE TO SAY?

A Survey reveals India’s gaping generation gap Where Only 7% boys and 4% girls (aged 15-24) have been found to discuss “growing up” issues with their dad in a recently-concluded youth survey.

DESCRIPTION: LET’S TAKE A DEEP DIVE

Generation Gap is the gap in communication that leads to misunderstandings and disharmony.

It is the difference between two generations: The Young and The Old. Where the youth is Risk-Friendly the older generation is Risk-Averse. Old have experience whereas youth has a passion and wants to always follow their heart rather than mind and logic.

So both the Generations have to work together because just having a passion and being risk-friendly in today’s world is not enough nor is just having wisdom and experience enough because we live in a dynamic world where all these qualities are required in an individual. Things have to be changed and for this, we need understanding and flexible to change.

The older generation shouldn’t sit and compare the younger generation with theirs. At the same time, the younger generation should also understand the concerns of the older generation and respect their views and opinions when keeping their own opinions in front of the older generation.

Do’s for the older generation:

  • Advise children without seeming to be interfering.
  • Present your views/thoughts/ points in a friendly manner without being dominant. Try to be updated with the changing World.
  • Don’t be stubborn by sticking to your old practices try out new things too.
  • Understand that the younger generation is going through Transition so, Be calm and patient when talking to them and try to understand their emotions.

Do’s for the younger generation:

  • Take into consideration your parents advice before taking certain decisions.
  • Present your views/thoughts/points in a friendly manner without being rude or without hurting the sentiments of the older generation.
  • Help the older generation stay updated with the changing world. For example, by teaching them how to operate certain electronic gadgets.
  • Surely try out new things but also take advice from the older generations as they have much more experience.
  • Understand that the older generation is going through a transition too. So, handle the older generation with love and understanding.

CONCLUSION

The older and younger generation have to sit together, communicate, synergize and get the best out of each other. Only then this gap will be bridged.
